I have a commercial vertical and like it but I wanted to try to build a smaller, simpler light weight vertical for multiple bands. I came up with what I call the "Wonder Stick" antenna! The Wonder Stick is composed entirely of schedule 20 PVC pipe and a piece of copper-weld 12 gauge wire.

17 kwi 2023 · Easy Multi Band Vertical Antenna for HF. Over the years I’ve built many multi band vertical HF antennas including multi-element quarter wave verticals like the DXCommander configuration, multiple end fed vertical dipoles all on the same pole and a host of other configurations.

The “Chicken Wire Wonder” — A Unique Broadband Vertical Antenna for the HF Bands. I’ll bet you’ve never seen a Tapered Area Small Helix (TASH) antenna! Many so called broadband “wonder” antennas advertised to the Amateur Radio community dissipate most of the applied power in resistive loading.
The vertical dipole or its electromagnetic equivalent, the monopole, could be considered one of the best antennas for land mobile radio applications. It is omni directional (in azimuth) and, if it is a half-wavelength long, has a gain of 1.64 (or G=2.15 dBi) in the horizontal plane (2).
This multiband vertical idea is based on many other home brew multiband verticles floating around the internet but it is another simple way to build a multiband ground mounted vertical that is very inexpensive and should cover 40 through 10 meters using PVC tubing as a support.
HF verticals are a popular antenna option when trees and towers aren’t available. They are the antennas of choice on the low bands for working DX, as most hams can’t get horizontal antennas high enough to be as effective as a vertical on 80M.
