In the January 2021, Legacy launched a new program for Student Members, ages 5 to 18. Twelve students joined as inaugural members and have been off to a strong start. These young members are actively involved in learning about the ship and sharing her story.

This national memorial is the climax of a 50-year dream by the crew members who survived the sinking of the cruiser USS Indianapolis in 1945. They worked tirelessly to erect a fitting memorial to their missing shipmates until it was formally dedicated in 1995.
