USS Cod (SS/AGSS/IXSS-224) is a Gato-class submarine, the only vessel of the United States Navy to be named for the cod, an important and very popular food fish of the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans.

Docked near Burke Lakefront Airport, it is the last fully intact World War II fleet submarine in existence. A Gato Class vessel, the sub was laid down by the Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut on July 21, 1942.
This WWII submarine is preserved as a moving memorial and museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Visitors can explore the submarine's original hatchways, ladders and other features while learning about its history during the Second World War and Cold War.
Then take a trip to the Lake Erie waterfront in Cleveland, Ohio, to the USS Cod (SS-224) Memorial. Secured to a pier there is the 312-foot Gato -class fleet submarine, which was commissioned 21 June 1943 at Groton, Connecticut.
