Plot Summary. In 1992, American writer Ira Levin won a Prometheus Award for This Perfect Day, a science fiction novel, which tells the story of a technocratic dystopia. The world Levin has created is run by a central computer called UniComp, often referred to simply as Uni.
His world, known as "The Family", is unified under the authority and control of a gigantic supercomputer named UNICOMP, a computer that allocates resources, assigns jobs, and makes every important decision with perfect machine efficiency.
Everyone eats "totalcakes", drinks "cokes", wears exactly the same thing and is satisfied - every day. The world is ruled by a central computer called UniComp which has been programmed to keep every single human on the surface of the earth in check.
