In particular, emails with the subject “Your UIC Job Application (Administrative Coordinating Assistant)” are part of a scam designed to trick students into sending money to the attackers.

Scammers use email spoofing methods to forge a UIC email address and make it appear as if the email is being sent by a UIC employee! Recipients may fall victim to these scams, believing it is coming from a legitimate UIC contact.
28 sie 2020 · In this scam, a student receives a telephone call from an attacker who identifies as a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent. The calling phone number is spoofed and appears as a legitimate phone number belonging to ICE (202-732-4646).
If you receive phishing/scam emails or calls and purchased gift cards, Bitcoin or deposited a fraudulent check, please contact UIC Police for assistance at 312-996-2830 or visit police.uic.edu. If you receive a scam telephone call, hang up, block the number and call UIC Police to report it at 312-996-2830.
