In Word and Outlook, you can use accent marks (or diacritical marks) in a document, such as an acute accent, cedilla, circumflex, diaeresis or umlaut, grave accent, or tilde. For keyboard shortcuts in which you press two or more keys simultaneously, the keys to press are separated by a plus sign (+) in the tables.
To type Umlaut letters in Windows (umlaut ö for example), press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard whilst you type the character’s alt code on the numeric keypad. The alt code for Umlaut o is 0246.
For example, Alt+0249 represents ù (U with the grave), Alt+0250 represents ú (U with acute), Alt+0251 represents û (U with Circumflex), and Alt+0252 represents ü (U with an umlaut). And to type uppercase “U with Accents” on top, use Alt+0217 for Ù, Alt+0218 for Ú, Alt+0219 for Û, and Alt+0220 for Ü.
