When you first look at the sea water temperature of the entire Atlantic Ocean, you immediately see that temperature is unequally distributed: warm at the equator, cold on the extreme north and south.
This map displays monthly sea surface temperatures for the globe. Monthly sea surface temperatures are from the Reynolds and Smith OISST version 2 sea surface temperature dataset. Shading indicates the monthly average sea surface temperature in °C for the month indicated.
Get the current and average sea temperatures from over 7,000 locations and 200 countries around the world. The map above is updated daily and shows the ocean water temperature as recorded on 28th Nov 2024.
The warmest water in Atlantic Ocean was recorded today in Boffa. The water temperature in this location is 85°F. And the coldest in Qaqortoq, its value 30°F. The water temperature in Atlantic Ocean tends to decrease, its value has decreased both over the last week and over the month. The general trend can be seen on the graph.
SST must be 82 degrees Fahrenheit (F) or warmer for tropical cyclone formation and sustenance. For hurricane forecasting, it can also be very useful to look at the SST anomalies. A SST anomaly is the difference in the current SST measurement from the long-term average temperature for a given month, in a given place (the climatology).
27 cze 2016 · From 1901 through 2023, temperature rose at an average rate of 0.14°F per decade (Figure 1). Sea surface temperature has been consistently higher during the past three decades than at any other time since reliable observations began in 1880. The year 2023 was the warmest ever recorded (Figure 1).
