19 wrz 2022 · Each of the four clans of Levites was allotted a specific set of towns from a specific group of tribes, as shown in these maps. Each of the clans were assigned various responsibilities for the upkeep of the Tabernacle and its furnishings.

Map of the territory of Benjamin. Note the area around the cities allotted to the Levites, per Numbers 35:4–5. In the Book of Numbers the Levites were charged with ministering to the Kohanim and keeping watch over the Tabernacle:
Levitical city. In the Hebrew Bible, the Levitical cities were 48 cities in ancient Israel set aside for the tribe of Levi, who were not allocated their own territorial land when the Israelites entered the Promised Land.

The tribe of Levi is missing from our map because they and their descendants were consecrated, by God, to be his priests. One of their many responsibilities was to serve and maintain the tabernacle in the wilderness, then later the temple in Jerusalem.
The shaded areas in this map represent the tribal allotments of land as described in the book of Joshua in the Hebrew Bible. There are 12 tribal territories, though out of the original 12 tribes, Levi did not receive land and the territory of Joseph was divided between his two sons.
