Trek DS 8.4 has larger 700c wheels with narrower 38mm tires for more efficiency riding on pavement. The DS 3 Gen 5 should be lighter and has wider tires for both front and back wheel comfort instead of the front suspension shock if you want comfort for off road bumps.
