On February 1, 1837, Mayslick was incorporated, and Jonas Eddy, E. H. Herndon, John L. Kirk, Asa Runyon, and Samuel Sharp were its trustees. Among Kirk’s slaves was Elisha Green, who lived in Mayslick from 1828 to 1832 and recounts in his autobiography the hard life of a slave.
