The smeltery is the default ore-doubling mechanic in Tinkers' Construct and it can be used to make metal tools. The absolute minimum needed materials to start your own smeltery are 51 blocks of sand, 50 blocks of gravel, 50 pieces of clay and 3 pieces of iron.
