22 mar 2023 · Traditionally PoTS was diagnosed by tilt table test in a hospital setting. Using very expensive and sophisticated machines, every heart beat could be counted, and blood pressure checked at every heartbeat.
Tilt Table Test. The tilt table test is used by autonomic physicians as the gold standard test for POTS. In this procedure, the patient will be put on a table that can be adjusted from the horizontal position to nearly vertical.
This test helps your doctor understand how your blood pressure and heart rhythm respond to changes in position, such as moving from lying down to standing up. It is often used to diagnose the cause of unexplained fainting (also called syncope), dizziness, or light headedness.
This equipment will be used to continuously monitor your heart rate, rhythm and blood pressure throughout the test. You will be secured to the tilt table using fabric straps for your safety.
• A blood-pressure cuff will be applied to your arm to take your blood pressure and heart rate every minute during the test. • A nurse will insert an intravenous catheter into your hand or arm. • A nurse will supervise your test. • You will be placed on a table with your feet touching the foot rest.
