When you press buy on paper trade you get filled at an old price. When you sell it is the current price. So you can have pretty awesome looking returns on your paper return.
Click on the support tab in the top right and tell them you would like real time data on your paper money account. They’ll flip it over for you. You can also go to Setup/Application Settings/General/System/Quote Speed and select “Real-time (no delay)”.
Just had to apply for Level 2 data (free) and call them to ask for enabling real time quotes in paper trading. Should only take a couple minutes. It's $500. Side note: paper trading on TOS should only be used to learn the software, not to learn how to trade.
