29 maj 2024 · While Southern Water Snakes (also called Banded Water Snakes) can be found in a variety of areas around the United States (from North Carolina to the Florida Keys, and then oddly in areas of Illinois), they can be found specifically in eastern Texas.
25 kwi 2024 · The broad-banded water snake is a beautiful, semi-aquatic colubrid that owes its name to the wide, irregular-shaped blotches or bands on its back. This subspecies of the banded water snake is usually active between late March and October.
Be on the lookout for these water snakes near swamps, marshes, ponds, and slow-moving streams and rivers, as well as flooded fields and drainage ditches. But they aren’t limited to just aquatic habitats. Cottonmouths can also be found in palmetto thickets, pine forests, dune areas, and prairies.
Typically found in and around bodies of water. Head is only slightly wider than neck, keeled scales, round pupils. Stocky body with an irregular pattern of wide black bands fading to brown and shades of orange or yellow.
In Texas, Nerodia fasciata confluens is found in the eastern third of the state. Nerodia f. pictiventris is restricted, at present, to Cameron County, having been introduced there in the first half of the century from Florida.
26 lis 2021 · The southern water snake (Nerodia fasciata) is frequently also referred to as the broad banded water snake in eastern and southeastern Texas. These are small fish eaters that also eat frogs and other small aquatic species.
We found a beautiful little East Texas Broadband Water Snake in a local creek today, as always...catch and release!
