Re: Ideal string set (GDAE) for this tenor guitar? I use Ernie Ball 2320 Medium Gauge Extra Long mandolin strings. They achieve the GDAE without excessive tension and the extra length fits the longer scale of a Tenor guitar.
28 lis 2019 · Traditional tuning – CGDA. C 0.035 or 0.036″ phosphor bronze. G 0.024″ phosphor bronze. D 0.016 plain steel. A 0.010 plain steel. This is for a 22″ scale guitar. If your guitar is 21″, go up a gauge heavier. If the guitar is around 23″ scale, drop down to 9s.
You can play irish style melody in CGDA on a tenor and it still sounds great, but it might just take a lilltle experimenting to get the right strings in GDAE. Considering that Gerry O'Connor mainly plays CGDA tuned tenor banjo, instead of the usual Irish tuning GDAE & he must be one of the greatest Irish banjo player alive.
