I have tried Crunchyroll (limited shows with actors instead of animations), Funimation (same as Crunchyroll), and Rakuten Viki (more shows with actors available, but still limited to around 60ish titles compared to hundreds from other Asian countries).
TBS puts out a lot of good dramas, so keep on eye out for them. Here's a list of some highly rated TBS dramas. Also currently available on tver.jp is ナンバMG5 (Nanba MG5). It's a wacky comedy, like Time Taxi (but it doesn't involve time travel).
If you really want the best option for streaming Japnese TV it will cost you, but not really that much. There is a program called JpPlayer that streams 36 channels of live television. The quality is very, very good, and the cost is $200 per year. The guy that runs the program is also very helpful.
