Micah 5 is a prophetically significant chapter in the Old Testament. It presents a powerful prophecy about the birth of a ruler in Bethlehem who will shepherd God's people and bring them deliverance. It also discusses God's judgment on Israel's enemies and highlights the themes of restoration and God's sovereign protection.
Micah is divided into three parts. Chapters 1-4a begin with God accusing Israel’s leaders of practicing injustice. Chapters 4b-5 detail the hope for restoration under the messianic king. Chapters 6-7 conclude with hope in God’s mercy and redemption.
David Guzik commentary on Micah 5 describes how from Israel will come the Ruler from Bethlehem, and the triumph of the remnant of Jacob.
These verses would correspond with the words, “They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod” in Micah 5:1. It would also tie verse 1 to verse 2 which clearly refers to the Messiah.

To complete such a summary would be to draw upon practically every page of the Bible. Not merely the verbal prophecies and the great patriarchal types alone, however, bore the message of the coming Holy One.
