String testing is a method used to measure a horse’s potential height at maturity. By using a string to measure the distance from a horse’s elbow to the fetlock joint, horse owners and breeders can estimate the horse’s final height.
28 paź 2011 · String test was absolutely exact on both my mares - believe it or not. Both were very small for their age (I got them as yearlings), so I wasn't sure they gonna make it "horse size", but string gave 14'3 on one and 15'2 on other.

Still another, less scientific method, is to add two hands of height to a yearling’s height or one hand to a 2-year-old’s height.
