Enjoy wide open vistas, roaring rivers, and the history and charm of Appalachia, as we transport you back in time to Blue Heron Mining Community.
The K&T Special, our signature excursion, is a gorgeous three-hour scenic train ride from Stearns, Kentucky to the National Park Service's wonderfully restored Blue Heron Mining Community. In 2017 e'll also offer a variety of special event trains during the year, such as the Moon-shine Limited and South Fork Santa Express.

Tucked away in the mountains, The Big South Fork Scenic Railway begins its journey in the National Historic District of Stearns and follows 5 miles of vintage track of the Kentucky & Tennessee Railway following mountain streams and scenic beauty into the gorge of the Big South Fork, just like those trains from long ago.

The Big South Fork Scenic Railway is a heritage railroad in Stearns, Kentucky. The route runs for 16 miles (26 km) through lush countryside in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. There is a stop in the historic coal mining town of Blue Heron, Kentucky which can be toured.
