In 2009 the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation donated 30 sculptures to the North Carolina Museum of Art, making it the repository for the most extensive Rodin collection between Philadelphia and the West Coast.
Since the initial acquisition in February 1952 of 158 paintings, 2 sculptures, and 25 pieces of furniture and other decorative arts objects, purchased with a $1 million appropriation of state funds, the collection of the North Carolina Museum of Art has grown steadily.

The museum's permanent collection includes European paintings from the Renaissance to the 19th century, Egyptian funerary art, sculpture and vase painting from ancient Greece and Rome, American art of the 18th through 20th centuries, and international contemporary art.

This gallery brings together a large collection of sculptures by Auguste Rodin gifted to the Museum by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation.
The stunning West Building offers outstanding works of art from antiquity to the present, including European, American, African, Egyptian and Jewish art. The galleries offer excellent examples of work that range from Greek sculpture to Renaissance paintings to contemporary photographs.
