Becoming a Licensed Child Care Provider. While DHS manages the child care subsidy program, licensed providers are licensed through DCFS. If you are interested in becoming a licensed child care provider in the state of Illinois, you must apply at the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
A license is valid for three years. The day care center’s license must be posted. It will indicate the maximum number of children allowed in the facility and the areas where children may receive care. Licensed day care facilities are inspected annually by DCFS licensing staff.
If the number of unrelated children you provide care for, is more than three (including your own children under age 12), you will need to obtain a child care license from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
