I have written a SQL query that I would like to be able to call and run from a VBA sub in an excel workbook and then bring the query results into the workbook. I have found some subs online (stackoverflow and other places) that claim to do this but I am having trouble understanding them as they contain no explanation.
Although we can create External Data Sets in Excel that pull information from a SQL Server Database there are times when you want to check a value or lookup a value from an underlying SQL Server database directly from an Excel formula. Using VBA we can do this!

19 gru 2022 · We can use ADO in Excel VBA to connect the data base and perform data manipulating operations. We need add ‘Microsoft Activex Data Objects Library’ from References to reference the ADO in VBA. Here is the adodb.connection VBA Reference screen-shot.
19 sie 2021 · Combining the VBA knowledge with some more complex SQL queries can lead to really big tools dealing with tons of data. It is much easier to connect to the source than converting the data to Excel format and then start the macro.
