In my experience, a lot of 2.4ghz only devices have problems connecting to these routers. In theory it is supposed to default to 2.4 if the 5 won’t connect but usually doesn’t. Sometimes you can force it to connect to 2.4 if you move as far away from your router as possible.
I've heard you can call in to customer care and tell them you have a device that needs to connect to 2.4Ghz and they'll shut off the 5Ghz temporarily. If that doesn't work, sometimes people will take their device far away from the router so it has no choice but to connect to the 2.4Ghz band.
