11 paź 2024 · Somatic mutations define disease subsets. Somatic mutations arising in the context of an autoimmune disease can affect disease progression, contributing to distinct disease courses and...
Somatic mutation. A distinctive feature of the antibodies produced in response to antigenic stimulation is the progressive increase over time in the intrinsic affinities of the antibodies made against an antigenic epitope.
Somatic hypermutation (or SHM) is a cellular mechanism by which the immune system adapts to the new foreign elements that confront it (e.g. microbes).
17 kwi 2023 · A somatic mutation describes any alteration at the cellular level in somatic tissues occurring after fertilization. These mutations do not involve the germline and consequently do not pass on to offspring.
Somatic hypermutation (SHM) is the incorporation of point mutations within the immunoglobulin V-region genes, which serve as the basis for affinity maturation and effective immune responses. The process is initiated by antigen stimulation, occurs in the dark zone of germinal centres, and requires functional AID [49].
11 mar 2019 · Somatic hypermutation (SHM) of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes plays a key role in antibody mediated immunity. SHM in B cells provides the molecular basis for affinity maturation of antibodies. In this way SHM is key in optimizing antibody dependent immune responses.
Once antigen enters the system, it stimulates a somatic mutational mechanism that generates antibodies of higher affinity and selects for the expression of those antibodies to produce a more effective immune response. The details of the mechanism and regulation of somatic hypermutation remain to be elucidated.
