When I originally fitted the 4.2.7 board I experimented with a few including compiling my own, ended up using Jyers E3 V2 firmware. It's been rock solid and works really well with Octoprint. As someone just mentioned, be prepared to make new mount points for the board - only one lines up.
The goal is the simplicity and firmware options available on Marlin 2.0 for the 4.2.7 board that are not available on 2.2.1. Also, I can buy the screen and 4.2.7 together for almost the same cost as the silent 8-bit.
I am currently in the process of trying to flash a new Marlin version to my original Creality 4.2.7 Silent board. The board is used in my Ender-3 Pro. However, the printer does not recognize the .bin file on the SD card.
