Players find when switching platforms (Steam to Origin or back) that they do have to re-download all of their store content again, while logged in and using a game registered that was installed on the intended platform.
Go to Store in the top bar, move down the drop down to My Store Account and select Purchase History. Step 5: Find your newly added item and hit download, which will start the download process.

Steam version doesn’t need origin and you can always download all of your store content on web. Store works just fine maybe it won’t in future but in that case ea version won’t neither. (Would recommend to save all of your files on usb or whatever if you can)
Ive seen from other people in this thread that store content does work with the Steam version, however I don't know how that works just yet but it is possible. Steam's version only goes up to 1.67, as the only difference between 1.67 and 1.69 is the requirement to use Origin to launch the program.
There are some possible fixes or work-arounds you might want to try. I posted about them here. If you choose to buy Sims 3 from Steam or find the game elsewhere online, you can still download and install the store content with the Steam version. If you find the game online, there are alternative ways to get and install the store content as well.
