Summary . There the once was a man and woman, who both really wanted a child, but did not have one. The wife became very sick, and wanted rampion to cure her, but it was only found in the witches garden. She sent her husband to get her some, and he eventually got caught.
Instantly the witch makes off with the baby, whom she names Rapunzel. When Rapunzel is 12, the witch imprisons her in a stone tower that has neither stairs nor a door. The witch herself can't visit Rapunzel unless the girl lets down her long braids to make a ladder.
Rapunzel Summary. Because a man steals rampion from a witch's garden, he and his wife are forced to give their new baby to the witch. The witch raises the child as her own. At the age of twelve, the child is locked in a tower with no doors or stairs.
Rapunzel is the protagonist of the story and is the central character around whom the plot revolves. The Witch serves as the antagonist, creating conflict for Rapunzel. The Prince plays the role of the love interest, while the King and Queen are Rapunzel's parents, providing a supporting role.
