Some jaundice is normal in neonates. Risk varies with postnatal age, total serum bilirubin value, prematurity, and health of the neonate. Treatment depends on cause and degree of bilirubin elevation; the more preterm the infant, the lower the threshold level for treatment. Definitive treatments include phototherapy and exchange transfusion.
Total serum bilirubin (SBR): unconjugated (indirect) and conjugated (direct), then FBE and Coombs depending on clinical presentation; Transcutaneous bilirubinometers (TCB) can be used as a screening tool to assess bilirubin levels from 24 hours – 2 weeks of age in near-term infants.
31 paź 2023 · Interpret bilirubin levels according to the baby's postnatal age in hours and manage hyperbilirubinaemia according to the threshold table and the treatment threshold graphs. [2010] Care for babies more than 24 hours old
Developed by the National Collaborating Centre for Women’s and Children’s Health. These treatment threshold graphs accompany the clinical guideline: ‘Neonatal jaundice’. They are also available as an implementation tool.
5 sie 2022 · KAS 10: Intensive phototherapy is recommended at the total serum bilirubin thresholds in Fig 2 (Supplemental Table 1 and Supplemental Fig 1) or Fig 3 (Supplemental Table 2 and Supplemental Fig 2) on the basis of gestational age, hyperbilirubinemia neurotoxicity risk factors, and age of the infant in hours.
Calculator and clinical decision support for the AAP 2022 guidelines for the management of hyperbilirubinemia in newborns 35 or more weeks of gestation. Features. Neurotoxicity risk factors absent, present, or both. Plot multiple time points to assess trends.
