27 sie 2015 · General guidelines says most cables will support 115k baud, using x-on/x-off protocol (stop start is data on tx/rx lines) are limited to 30M, or about 100' with shielded cable. UTP cables using this same protocol setup are limited to about half the speed, so maybe 56k.
29 mar 2001 · Maximum Cable Length. As we have seen, the cable-length specification once included in the RS-232 standard has been replaced by a maximum load-capacitance specification of 2500pF. To determine the total length of cable allowed, one must determine the total line capacitance.
If for example UTP CAT-5 cable is used with a typical capacitance of 17 pF/ft, the maximum allowed cable length is 147 feet. The cable length mentioned in the standard allows maximum communication speed to occur. If speed is reduced by a factor 2 or 4, the maximum length increases dramatically.
4 mar 2021 · Using typical underwater cables, allowable combinations of cable length and baud rate for Sea-Bird instruments communicating with RS-232 are shown below: Maximum Cable Length (meters) Maximum Baud Rate*
18 sie 2020 · There are no cable length limits defined directly by the RS-232 standard, so the main determining factor is the maximum capacitance tolerated by a compliant drive circuit. As a general rule, the critical length will be 15 m (or about 300 m provided that only low-capacitance cables were used).
23 lip 2019 · The RS-232 spec mentions a maximum cable length and maximum capacitance. The problem (s) caused by too long a cable is/are not in the time domain (i.e. "the message takes longer to reach the receiver" is not a concern), but rather in the frequency domain (i.e. bandwidth is reduced and slew rate is lowered, so the max baudrate is limited).
15 maj 2012 · There is no single safe answer. It has a lot to do with the length of the cable, surrounding electrical noise, and how fast you want to go. Ethernet uses CAT5 cable to transmit at 10 Mbit/s for the slowest variety, so 1 Mbit/s is easily doable if you take the proper precautions.
