16 paź 2023 · The endoplasmic reticulum is in cells that have a nucleus: in eukaryote cells but not in prokaryote cells. It takes these forms: Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER), so called because it is studded with ribosomes, and secretes proteins into the cytoplasm. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER).
Rough ER looks like sheets or disks of bumpy membranes while smooth ER looks more like tubes. Rough ER is called rough because it has ribosomes attached to its surface. The double membranes of smooth and rough ER form sacs called cisternae .

12 maj 2019 · Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER) is a flat endoplasmic reticulum that had ribosomes attached to its outside surface. It belongs to a continuous membrane, the nuclear envelope surrounding the cell nucleus, and it’s name comes from the ribosomes covering it.
Learn about the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), one of the organelles found in the cytoplasm of a cell. Discover the two types of endoplasmic reticulum: rough ER and smooth ER, as well as their...
4 paź 2019 · The rough ER is characterized by the presence of membrane-bound ribosomes that give it a distinctive appearance under the microscope. These ribosomes look like studs and distinguish the organelle from the smooth sections of the ER.
Rough and smooth ER differ not only in appearance, but also in function. While the rough ER manufactures and transports proteins destined for membranes and secretion, the smooth ER has functions in several metabolic processes.
