A whole note is (generally) the longest note used in modern written music. A half note is ½ as long as a whole note. A quarter note is ¼ as long as a whole note.

Musical symbols are the marks and symbols, used since about the 13th century in the musical notation of musical scores, styles, and instruments, in order to describe pitch, rhythm, tempo – and, to some degree, its articulation (e.g., a composition in its fundamentals).
There are many types of music notes to help you decipher a musical composition. The following table lists some of the most commonly found music notes and symbols and their meanings.
