Blu and Jewel tries to escape the smuggler's hideout by playing dead, but Jewel is pinned by Nigel just before she manages to escape via a ventilation vent. Blu and Jewel are chained together and locked up with many other captured birds.
Later, Blu and an injured Jewel fall out of the plane over the bay, and Blu manages to get his wings out just in time to pull up — skimming Jewel's back across the water — before they hit the surface.
