10 wrz 2010 · I've already loaded 40 rounds of .223 using Remington no. 6 1/2 small rifle primers. That's what the guys at Cabelas told me to use. Now, I'm all ready to load 50 more....and, after checking again, I read all over the web NOT to use 6 1/2 in .223, use 7 1/2!
25 lut 2012 · In rifle cartridges, the 6-1/2 small rifle primer should not be used in the 17 Remington, 222 Remington, 204 Ruger or the 223 Remington. The 7-1/2 BR is the proper small rifle primer for these rounds.
11 sty 2021 · A little late on the question - I used the Remington 6 1/2 on some moderate .223 loads with 40-50 grain bullets in my Cooper M21 single shot. Had more than one instance of pierced primers which led me to doing the research I didn't do at first. Fortunately no damage to the rifle, but lesson learned.

30 gru 2007 · Remington warns against using their "standard" 6 1/2 small rifle primer w/ .223/5.56 and certain other higher pressure cartridges. They tells us to use the 7 1/2 BR (same size) for those apps. I dunno about other brands and their recommendations, but their websites probably offer some suggestions.
