My basic setup today consisted of the DXY (US Dollar Index — we can call it our Forex version of SPY for USD pairs) and three USD pairs that I like to trade. The US Dollar has been heading higher recently, and coupled with Powell's comments last night, there is some bullish energy in the market.
Step 1: Calculate the average gain. Step 2: Calculate the average loss. Step 3: Calculate the Relative Strength (RS). Step 4: Calculate the RSI. In this example, the RSI is approximately 59.09, indicating a relatively higher average gain compared to the average loss over the 14 periods.
The Relative Strength Index is built in the MetaTrader4 forex platform. You can add it to your chart by going to Insert > Indicators > Oscillators > Relative Strength Index. The basic RSI trading strategy involves these rules: Enter a trade when you get an RSI signal on the chart – overbought, oversold, or divergence.
