In Disk Utility on Mac, you can erase and reformat storage devices to use with your Mac. Erasing a storage device deletes everything on it. Important: If you have any files you want to save, copy them to another storage device before erasing a device.

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Log Out, then log in again. Try to eject the disk again. If you still can’t eject the disk, choose Apple menu > Shut Down. Disconnect the disk from your computer, then start up your computer again.
