Currently Virtuoso (mesmer elite spec) and Scourge (necromancer elite spec) are the strongest ranged builds in the game. Not only that though, they're among the strongest builds in the entire game, often outperforming full-melee builds.
Both power and condition virtuoso are top tier dps builds that have 1200 range by default, and are pretty self sufficient and do well both solo and in groups. Condition Scourge is also ranged, relatively easy to learn, high damage and very survivable (but kind of expensive to gear).
Ranger: longbow, shortbow, mainhand axe, and war horn are all ranged weapons and powerful options. Thief: scepter specter is very meta and ranged. Deadeye has pistols and rifle as well, but not super meta for group content. Engineer: rifle engineer is exceptionally powerful and simple to play right now. Like, overpowered level.
8 paź 2024 · I generally prefer ranged builds: it's good for exploration, a bit more response time against unfamiliar mechanics and it helps reduce the effects of 250 ping (namely running over and attacking enemies who are already dead).
All (most) classes can be played ranged, however, some are better suited than others. The gameplay wil change dramatically with traits, that you can select. At level 80, you can also pick an elite trait/specialization which can turn the gameplay of this char by 180° (if you own the expansion packs).

31 maj 2021 · With Shortbox + Axe/X + your pet can take aggro in pve; you have tools to keep enemies at range but also strong melee skills with traps, torch, dagger etc. Thanks for the replies, a bit bummed out ranged dps isnt much of an option in this game as I liked kiting and keeping my distance more in mmos.
