I use a red LED headlight. I don’t bother turning on my normal safelight any more. The light is wherever I want. The head light has a white LED and a red LED . A red only LED has its spectrum well in the safe area as it has a narrow spectrum unlike filtered tungsten.
I use an LED bulb for safelight, but make sure you test for fogging anyway. While a red LED is most likely safe, a lot of “red” led bulbs are in fact white leds with red filters.
Ideally you'd want the area behind the monitor be as bright as the monitor itself. An easy way to test this is to have a white piece of paper next to the screen and a white document open on the computer. If both have the same hue of whiteness then you are good to go.
