I use a red LED headlight. I don’t bother turning on my normal safelight any more. The light is wherever I want. The head light has a white LED and a red LED . A red only LED has its spectrum well in the safe area as it has a narrow spectrum unlike filtered tungsten.
I use an LED bulb for safelight, but make sure you test for fogging anyway. While a red LED is most likely safe, a lot of “red” led bulbs are in fact white leds with red filters.
29 gru 2007 · I have converted my bathroom to a part-time darkroom. I removed the 75 watt bulb ceiling light that turns on with the fan. I am having a dark red piece of Plexiglas cut to fit into the ceiling fixture. Two questions:

I know this isn't a new thing but my safelight died on me last week and it's been difficult getting a replacement bulb in Canada. Thought I'd try out the red light headlamps and this particular one from canadian tire works pretty well.

Amber or red darkroom safelight bulbs are the most common for film development. When using safelight filters , never mix red bulbs with amber filters, or the reverse, as it causes a fog on photos. In addition, mount safelights onto walls using wall flanges situated at least four feet from the developing images for best results.
