Rebel, formerly Rebel Yell until 2020, is a brand of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey owned and marketed by MGP Ingredients. Rebel Yell is currently distilled and aged at the Lux Row Distillery, in Bardstown, Kentucky, which opened in 2018. [1] As is typical for a bourbon, it is sold at 40% alcohol by volume (80 U.S. proof).
Unquestionably, a name change of a well-established brand like Rebel Yell raises concerns about its impact on the whiskey’s reputation. However, this rebranding should not be viewed as a complete overhaul of the product itself.
Most bottle manufacturers molded the year into the glass at the bottom of the bottle in 2-digit format. You’ll often find it in the lower right portion when looking at the bottom (some dates are much easier to distinguish than others). This will usually tell you–within a year or two–when the whiskey was bottled.
5 sty 2015 · Changes include new packaging for Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon, as well as bringing Rebel Reserve Honey and Cherry under the Rebel Yell name. Rebel Reserve will also be updated and now called Rebel Yell Small Batch Reserve.
However, on January 10th, 2018 Luxco filled its first barrel at its new Bardstown distillery, Lux Row Distillers, so it’s likely that Rebel Yell bourbon will be produced there in the future. The fantastic Billy Idol song ‘Rebel Yell’ was inspired by the brand.
Fun Fact: Luxco has rebranded their "Rebel Yell" line of whiskey into "Rebel Bourbon". Quick everyone buy up the Rebel Yell bottlings before they are gone! Then post them to secondary sites as Dusty's or old label bottels for 2000% the price.
19 kwi 2022 · In 1980, the company was purchased by the David Sherman Corporation, since then the brand has changed hands and is now controlled by Lux Row distilleries who operate out of Bardstown, KY. The current location in which Rebel Yell Bourbon is created is over 18,000 square feet and contains a 43-foot copper still.
