15 paź 2024 · In the group with HVA, 6 dogs had RDW values above the reference interval (range: 14.8% to 15.7%), and of these, only 2 dogs had evidence of mild non-regenerative anemia, 1 of them being normocytic, normochromic, and the other microcytic and normochromic.
The mean value of RDW (16.44 ± 1.41) is lower than of 17.5% like observed by Yilmaz et al. (2008) but it is within the values considered normal for dogs--14 to 19%--(Dunn, 2008; The Pet Center, 2008).
The actual measurement is of the volume or size of your pet’s red blood cells or its MCV. A high RDW means that there is too much variation in the size of your pet’s red blood cells. Knowing that is occurring gives your veterinarian hints as to the possible cause of a confirmed anemia.

17 paź 2016 · RDW. In healthy dogs, the median (interquartile range) RDW was 13.3% (12.3–13.7%). Seven of 50 (14%) dogs with MMVD, 9 of 32 (28.1%) dogs with PH-MMVD, and 8 of 26 (30.8%) dogs with precapillary PH had RDW greater than the upper reference limit of 14.5%.
The RDW is a parameter that is routinely assessed by a haematological analyser and is a marker of anisocytosis, i.e. the concomitant occurrence of normocytes, macrocytes, and microcytes in a sample. The RDW is usually increased if there are iron, vitamin B 12, or other nutritional deficiencies.
