I did make the leap and purchase a TP-link wifi range extender. It's dual band, has decent speed & works with the Xfinity gateway. Ironically, so far, just upgrading to the 3rd Generation Gateway has given us MUCH better coverage than we had with the Gen 2 and Orbi set up.
