26 maj 2004 · In verses 2-14, we have a description of the ram (3-4), the goat (5-8), and the “little horn” (9-14). In verses 15-18, Gabriel the angelic interpreter, is introduced. Verses 19-26 then explain the meaning of the ram (20), the goat (21), and the little horn (22-25).

Daniel was praying and seeking the meaning of the vision recorded in Daniel 8 when the angel Gabriel was sent to explain it to him (verses 15-17). Gabriel said he had come to make known to Daniel what would happen in the “latter time of the indignation” (verse 19).

(5-8) A male goat challenges and conquers the ram. And as I was considering, suddenly a male goat came from the west, across the surface of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
There, Daniel sees a male sheep—a ram—boldly running around without anyone to oppose it. This ram has two horns, with the later-appearing horn growing higher than the older one. The meaning of this symbol will be explained later (Daniel 8:2–4). Next, Daniel sees a male goat moving so quickly that its feet don't touch the ground.
