Purple martin’s are migratory birds. They migrate each year from South America to North America. You will find the birds reaching the southern coast between Texas and Florida as early as January, and may begin moving back south as early as August with most of them leaving the United States by October.
What causes the arrival times to vary from one colony to the next? It can’t be age of colony and here’s why I say that. Just up the road, a half mile from my house is a colony that’s been there for over 30 years.

I have installed more houses in my garden as well as my neighbors yards this year and have been watching the purple martin scout arrival map. I have posted my first scout arrival sighting on 02-22-2020 when I seen 1st PM of this year flying over house, the next day I saw PM sitting on PM house but I have holes blocked from sparrows and starlings.
