PHRI evaluates health policies and programs using a culturally-centered, partnership-based paradigm to produce findings that go beyond basic reporting requirements and provide value by integrating with strategic planning, communications, and grant development strategies.
In March 2002, PHRI moved from New York City to its current home at the International Center for Public Health (ICPH), a specialized facility for infectious disease research on the Newark campus of New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).
The mission of the Institute was to conduct research in areas related to the public health problems of New York City. The Institute had three divisions—Infectious Disease, Applied Immunology, and Nutrition and Physiology (which later became the Division of Biochemistry).
