Please note my guide is an alternate method to the 8bitdo guide - they recommend as do many others that the controller needs the sixaxis pair tool software, however I reset the controller using the reset button which is far simpler.

Then I saw a couple days ago that a switch pro controller should work on a ps3. Luckily I have one, I tried connecting it by cable but then it just charges but no response on my PS3. So I connected it via bluetooth.
Does your ps3 connect to wifi? The bluetooth and wifi module can fail in the console and usually both go at once. It's probably not the controller at fault. If you can't connect to wifi either, the options are... SLIM/SUPER-SLIM: replace the antenna inside the console but it's likely the motherboard and can't be fixed for a reasonable price.
