Pinkerton is an American private investigation and security agency established around 1850 in the United States by Scottish-born American cooper Allan Pinkerton and Chicago attorney Edward Rucker as the North-Western Police Agency, which later became Pinkerton & Co. and finally the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.

Pinkerton (pierwotnie: Pinkerton National Detective Agency) – amerykańskie przedsiębiorstwo zajmujące się ochroną mienia i osób (prywatna agencja ochrony) oraz wykonujące usługi detektywistyczne, założone w 1850 roku przez Allana Pinkertona.
Były to m.in. inwigilacja podejrzanego, infiltracja środowisk przestępczych poprzez „pracę pod przykryciem”. Po wybuchu wojny domowej Pinkerton był, w latach 1861–1862, szefem służb wywiadowczych Union Intelligence Service.
