31 sie 2016 · Basically, the thermostat housing consists of 3 annulus (or is it annuli), to which the various flow paths are ported. The oil from the engine to the front cooler are on one annulus, the oil from the cooler on another, and the oil to the tank are on the third.
Installed in-between the engine and the cooler, this device shunts the oil flow back to the engine until the oil temperature reaches 180 degrees, at which point the total flow is directed though the cooler.
A cleaner install would be to use a thermostatic switch to have the fan come on automatically when the temp get to the set point. I just used a sandwich plate at the oil filter to run to/from the cooler. Bolted to the trunk floor with rubber spacers to get the spacing and isolate from vibration.
6 maj 2001 · Most coolers are mounted up front, with an inline thermostat. You do not want a big slug of cold oil to burst the relatively fragile cooler lines. But I have seen coolers in the fender wells, rear trunks and under the engine lids. The cheap way is to find an RX-7 oil cooler in a junk yard and adapt the fittings.
Here's my set-up: Full flow oil, remote filter, by-pass thermostat and simple oil cooler. It all sits on the right side of the transmission since the left side is taken up by the Tangerine exhaust. It's only for street use but I've never seen the oil temperature exceed 2/3 scale on the gauge.
