23 wrz 2020 · Phan Rang Air Base was an important United States Air Force base during the Vietnam War. It is located in the Ninh Thuan Province of Vietnam. Originally built by the Imperial Japanese Army during WWII, it was rebuilt by the United States Air Force and used during the Vietnam War by both the USAF and the South Vietnamese Air Force.
The 366th arrived at Phan Rang Air Base in March 1966. It was an air base dating back to World War II, used by the Japanese and French. To accommodate the expanding Vietnam War, Phan Rang was expanded by the USAF in 1966 to accommodate both American and South Vietnamese fighter and helicopter units.

*Moore was commander of 2nd Air Division from Jan. 21, 1963, to March 31, 1966. Seventh Air Force left Vietnam and moved its headquarters to Nakhon Phanom AB, Thailand, in March 1973. The commander was a deputy commander of both 7th Air Force and 13th Air Force. In March 1973, 7th/13th Air Force reverted to Det. 7 of 13th Air Force.
After arriving at my next duty station at Bergstrom AFB, Austin Texas, in Feb 1967, I received the award for saving the life of a fellow Security Policeman at Phan Rang, Vietnam in May 1966. He had collapsed and stopped breathing and I administered CPR until the medics arrived.
