About Peru. Founded in 1870 by E. R. Cutler; who was originally from LaSalle, IL and Peru, IL area. Both names were proposed and voted on with Peru winning the majority of votes. 1902-1905 Oil Boom in Peru; population grew to 1500. First trains thru Peru were in the winter of 1886; Santa Fe and Missouri Pacific.
