This feminist magazine has been published for 36 years and is looking for more book reviewers to join their force.
23 lip 2014 · As a student I had free access to thousands of scholarly articles through my universities in databases/archives such as JSTOR, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, Econlit, PubMed, etc, etc. With no subscription, glancing at the full text of any 1 article costs anywhere from $20 to $60.
The Lancet reportedly pays for peer review "sometimes". Reviewers for journals published by the American Economic Association earn $100 for each "timely" review. Zentralblatt MATH (zbMATH) pays 2.56 EUR per review, although this is for post-publication reviews that are then published.

Payment could also increase the motivation to review, encourage increased speed and reviews of improved quality, and might even tap into the pool of retired researchers.
